About Me

I am an artist immersed in Africa; from my childhood, which was spent with six siblings on a large cattle ranch in the Eastern Highlands of Zimbabwe, to my teenage years where I explored the bush and swamps of Botswana with my adventurous pilot father, to my adult life where I was exposed to wars that were raging both on the continent and in my personal life. All these experiences have had a profound effect upon the way I see and interact with the world around me. My expression arises from the people, the landscape and the spirit of Africa, and the versatility of my work echoes this. All of my art is a reflection of my life experience and as such, has become an integral part of that experience. Without my art, I would not be who I am. Without my life, my work would not be as it is.
I am most widely known as a fibre artist, and have been working in this medium for nearly thirty years. My work has been a part of many South African textile exhibitions that have been exhibited widely both in South Africa and overseas. I have won numerous awards, and have work in many private and corporate collections around the world.
Since moving to the Eastern Cape, there has been a growing demand for my pastel landscapes. These emanate from the same source as my textiles and reflect my passion for the land and my fascination with atmosphere and light.
I am also an art teacher, with over thirty year’s experience. I have a deep affection for my students, and derive much pleasure from helping beginners to get started and then nurturing their artistic growth. I am a great believer in the healing power of the creative process and offer workshops and drawing classes that foster and encourage the development of skills and the building of self esteem.
I now live in Grahamstown, where I run a private art studio. Visit My Studio to see more.
