Teaching
My Teaching Philosophy
I believe that everyone is born creative, and that creativity is vital for physical and mental health.
I believe that when we practise our creativity and become immersed in the process, we open ourselves up to guidance and discover who we really are. There is a truth associated with the creative process that is both frightening and exhilarating. My aim as a teacher is to help others find that truth in a safe and supportive environment.
What can you expect from my classes?
As a person, I am an adventurous free spirit, and so anyone coming into a class of mine must know that they will not be receiving paint by numbers instruction. I welcome all levels of ability and have a special sensitivity towards beginners, having been one myself at one time. All my classes are well structured, but within that structure there is plenty of room for play. I will encourage you to be true to yourself, to find your own story and help you to find a way to express it. I will not be teaching you how to make an artwork like mine, but I will guide you through the process of making an artwork that reflects you.
My workshops tend to focus as much on content and process, as they do on product.
